East Carolina University’s motto is Servire meaning “To Serve”. The ECU Staff Senate has been a campus leader in service for many years. Our dedication and desire to help not only the university community and surrounding communities through community service is something that we strive to uphold every day.

To further demonstrate this commitment, the Staff Senate will begin tracking the community service hours of its members. Our goal for the 2025-2026 year is to collectively reach 1,000 community service hours.

Performing community service means voluntarily doing work that benefits your community or people in need, without receiving any payment.   It’s often organized through schools, non-profits, religious groups or local governments and can be done individually or within a group.

People engage in community service for a variety of reasons – out of sense of civic duty, to fulfill school or court requirements, or simply to give back and make a positive impact. It promotes personal accountability, social responsibility and strengthens the bonds within a community.

We ask Senators to report their community service hours using the tracking form below. For every 100 hours of community service completed, a mast on the pirate ship will turn purple. There are ten masts on the ship, and we would like to have all of them colored in by our May 2026 meeting.
